  • Great job, Betsy. A conference can be so overwhelming. Your ideas along with Zita's and Bob Burg's are great ones to help keep the sanity in remembering who is who.

Personally I get more cards from others than I give out - specifically because I want to initiate follow up based on how I can serve them or ideas I might have based on what our conversation was like.

  • Henry, I agree - there is a great opportunity for those in Whatcom County to really "shine" with the 2010 Olympics and all the opportunity it will bring to our community. Creating a business plan around it sounds like a fantastic idea.

  • Thanks, Gail - here's another thing about the Northwest - lots of nice folks here - I bet there will be people offering to host others from out of town - I'd be surprised if not.

Even if someone had a well developed business going, they woud meet SO many interesting and potentially helpful people to help move them toward their business goals.

  • Jane, thank you for this article. I was a big Tim Russert fan, as is popular to say now - although I didn't know about what a great man he was until he was gone. Isn't that the way it often is? I hope those who went on and on about their respect, love, and admiration for Tim also did it when he was alive.

It is a great lesson for all of us.

  • Barry - I would love to attend this if anyone cancels. Will keep an eye on this event to see if it turns out there is a space. Coming from Bellingham, Lynnwood is very convenient - rather than further south.... thanks, Lori

  • Chuck, I liked your article because it reminds us of a very important point - even with a commoditized product or common service, we are the ones who can make a difference by treating our customers well.

I did a session on prospecting yesterday and one of my attendees mentioned that with a "non-sexy" product he really doesn't have a lot to say to prospective customers that is new or different. I am going to refer him to your article. Kudos. -- Lori

  • I see now that I am really outside of Phoenix - didn't know how far out I was until I arrived yesterday. If anyone was interested but not in this location - at least drop a note so that we can get some conversation going.

    thanks!

  • Mikelann, I also loved how you convey the "resentment" factor. In selling we call it "buyers remorse" or in this case, "sellers remorse".

As a consumer we have all seen the results of a vendor being resentful at one time or another - for me, I remember hiring a charity auctioneer (before I became one myself) - he agreed to a lower fee based on our small non-profit's tight budget, but then later treated us poorly and this experience made a big impact on me.

    Thanks!

  • I will need to get on the road at 8:30AM now due to a meeting "down south" but I trust that within an hour we will all get to talk further about how we can connect and anyone is welcome to stay till 9 or longer.

  • Tshombe, It was so great to meet you and the rest of the attendees to the FIRST Bellingham Biznik event. It was history in the making.

I'm still learning my way around town, so the more fellow solopreneurs I can meet up with the better. It seemed like everyone who attended clearly got some value and that we all could in some way help each other.

I know some of you won't make it to my upcoming event at 7:30AM, so I will be sure to schedule a lunch soon or wait to see what is scheduled next.

  • It is hard to add more beyond the great comments posted after our event last night, but since Dan stressed the point about posting thoughtful and interesting comments, I will make a few addtional observations:

The attendees were very interesting and while I didn't get to talk with everyone, I plan to follow up with half a dozen of them.

I was amazed at how much I learned about the search capabilities (WOW) and the ease of the video add in.

There is no down side for any "free agent" to join Biznik - between the search visibility, the community (in person and virtual) as well as the article /learn capability, it truly would be foolish NOT to join.

Dan and Lara were true professionals, passionate about what they are creating, and this alone made it worth attending.

Thanks to those who joined us at The Village Bellevue.

  • Please spread the word! There are a lot of free agents in Bellingham who are not on Biznik yet so won't know about it - grassroots effort here!

I've enjoyed attending many great Biznik events in the Seattle area and worked to get things going when I was in San Francisco a year ago.

It will be great meeting more biz owners here.

  • Great question - I use Mindjet Manager Pro, but a pencil and paper will work. The "twist" I put on this is to tailor it specifically to be a networking blueprint and guide. Ultimately it can help one decide on which events to attend, who to follow up with, and how to spend the valuable time an entrepreneur has.

  • Mark, I really enjoyed your article. If we can make it easy for people to approach us, and especially by learning more via a website, at least some folks will take that next step.

Great thoughts - thanks for this.
