  • Twelve 50% off coupons for great green gifts

In the spirit of supporting those who are doing their best to make environmentally friendly products (in one aspect or another), we put together a coupon sheet featuring twelve 50% off coupons. The list includes baby clothes and the cutest little wooden alligator, recycled typewriter key cuff links, a fabulous seed embedded calendar whose pages you can plant after use, reusable bags and other fun items that already are inexpensive, but at half off are almost irresistible. (Of course, we promote buying local as best, but if you aren't going to do that, take a look.)

FYI, there was no charge to participants and we are not making a dime off of this. We did it to encourage and support people who are doing a great job of greening their businesses.

To access the coupon sheet, go to http://www.celebrategreen.net/contests_giveaways/

Download the PDF, then click on any coupon to go to the website. Remember there are two pages to scroll through.

    Enjoy!

    Warmly, Lynn

  • Eco Gift Festival in Santa Monica, anyone going to be there?

We're coming down from Seattle to participate in the Eco Gift Festival, Dec. 12-14. Just wondering whether any other Bizniks are participating or planning on attending. Would love to connect. Let me know if you'll be there to help us celebrate green!

  • Home sweet home button?

Need input on our Celebrate Green! website.

The question is, Do we need a home button? Does EVERYONE know these days that if you click on the name of the website, it will take you home or is a button or graphic or whatever still required.

Seems like a lot of websites do not have them today, but I also think that many people who will be ordering our book from our website may not be that web savvy and I want to be sure everything is crystal clear. At the same time, I could use the real estate for something else.

So, what do you think? Thanks in advance for your input.

  • Networking with the stars

My daughter and I have a book coming out in October titled titled, "Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations and Traditions for the Whole Family." We have a publisher and publicist, but right now it's falling to me to track down and contact well-known people who might be willing to write a blurb/endorsement for the book.

Those I'm seeking fall into two categories: 1. WELL-KNOWN environmentalists, writers etc. in the green movement 2. Celebrities who are known for their green habits or leanings.

By emailing everyone I know and asking if they know someone I'm seeking or know someone who knows someone, I've gotten our book to a few people. But of course, I'm interested in more.

Those on my list include Carole King. Nell Newman, John Robbins, Brad Pitt, Dr. Alan Greene, Dr. Andrew Weil, Julia Roberts and Michael Pollan.

So for those of you who've read this far. Do you know anyone who might help that you'd be willing to connect me with?

Secondly, do you have suggestions for ways to be personally in touch other than a. try to connect with them via the internet or b. through their publicist?

    Thanks for any input.

    Warmly,

  • PR Lessons from Green Halloween

I posted earlier this month about the new initiative started by my daughter, http://www.greenhalloween.org. The idea in its simplest form is to create child and Earth-friendly holidays starting with Halloween.

I'm new to the Seattle area and although I've been in PR most of my adult life, it's always been in a smaller city where I knew the media. That was not the case here.

For those of you who are looking for publicity, I thought I'd let you know about my experience and maybe it can be of help to you.

    1. Releases. I created a release and sent it, usually by email, to every outlet I could find that I thought might be interested in the story. Depending on the outlet, I tailored the release, i.e. pitching a more visual story to TV. I followed up with many outlets by phone. We received coverage from almost every TV station in town (on the news) and quite a number of radio stations as well.

    2. Blogs. Aside from the story in the Seattle Times, the most response was generated from blogs. Red Tricycle, a Seattle blog for moms generated the most interest, but there was plenty of it from others. If you'd like to see the list of blogs (there are probably more, but these are the ones we've come up with so far) that featured Green Halloween, just go to our website and look on the Press page.

    3. In person. A team of us appeared at various Halloween themed events around the Sound where we handed out healthy treats or treasures and spoke one-on-one with people. Once people heard the idea, they became intrigued, visited our website and began making changes in their Halloween concepts.

    4. Kids. Parents are much more reluctant to make changes than children are. We don't give kids enough credit. One night I was at Pumpkin Prowl at the Zoo. We were handing out honey sticks. I didn't realize that most children even knew what honey sticks were. You should have heard the shouts of glee when they realized what we were handing out. And the kids were intrigued by the treasures we were suggesting as alternatives to regular candy. If you have a product or service that appeals to children, don't depend on changing their parents' minds. Find a way to connect with them in front of their parents and they will lead the way.

I have additional lessons learned, but even though it's Halloween today, I have clients so I'll sign off.

    Have a Happy HalloGREEN!

    Warmly,

  • Best way to get word out in Seattle?

In view of the child obesity epidemic AND our increasing interest in Earth friendly actions, my daughter has started a movement to create child and Earth friendly holidays. She's starting with Halloween.

Since she lives in the Seattle area, we're starting here. We have gotten incredible support from businesses including Whole Foods, Overlake Hospital and ParentMay, but we're really interested in reaching individuals who might want to host "green" Halloween parties or give out "green" treats. We're non-profit and raising funds this year for www.Treenswing.org.

We've got tons of ideas on our website, www.GreenHalloween.org about how to do all this, but my question is, how do we reach individuals who might take the lead in their neighborhoods? We're doing some events and those will generate publicity for Green Halloween, but any marketing we do will be around these events, not specifically aimed at getting individuals to "turn their neighborhoods green."

I'd appreciate any ideas you all might have.

    Thanks very much.

  • Mother's Day video

I hope it's OK to post this here. I'm very excited because a video I made with my partner is now up on YouTube.

If you're looking for a meaningful, inspiring free gift for your mom, take a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TWgzLxbMdo

We put this out two years ago and the response was tremendous. Having reformatted it, more people can enjoy it.

    Hope you do.

  • 50+ female entrepreneurs

While Biznik seems to attract a lot of younger members, it's a great resource for everyone. But I'm thinking about starting something especially for women age 50+. I know there are a lot of us out there and I'd love some feedback if you would be interested.

    Thanks.

  • Hoping to borrow from photographer

I am working on a project with a photographer who will be in the area this weekend, March 23-25. Of course, we're on a shoe string and need some lighting equipment. I thought I'd post here and see if any of the photographers would be willing to lend us the equipment. I would be happy to discuss an exchange of some sort.

Please contact me if you're interested and thank you for your consideration.

  • Have you overcome a challenge?

If you receive my newsletter, you know about my column, "They did it!" which celebrates people who have overcome something in their lives. It may be a life changing happening, like sudden illness or simply that someone has done something they feared and recognized the impact on their life.

If you or someone you know qualifies and are willing to share your story, please send me a paragraph or two explaining the situation. No promises, but I might feature the story in an upcoming newsletter. Of course, if I do, I will publicize your business and website in the process.

Here’s a link to one of my newsletters. Scroll down to "They did it!" to see what I’m talking about.
