What Mara does

Transition can be thrilling, terrifying, and often both at once. The possibilities we're presented with in times of transition can offer new ways of life that transform old, outdated patterns into dynamic and exciting experiences. If you're finding yourself "stuck" in an experience that is triggering depression, anxiety, or grief, you deserve care and support.

I strive to offer my clients deep listening, compassion, possibility, kinship, soul tending, and a good dose of humor to lighten the load. I listen for the subtext of what my clients tell me, and when I draw this subtext out, they typically experience relief and significant emotional shifts because they feel heard and understood. I also use play and creativity to help my clients access their intuition, wisdom, and resilience, helping them respond to life's circumstances with flexibility and wholeheartedness.

What Mara does best

I most often help clients explore women's and men's issues; dating and relationships; depression; general and social anxiety; grief and loss; trauma; and life transitions (job loss/new job, career change, new move, divorce/breakup, etc.)

What does Mara need?
  • referrals of clients in their 20s and 30s who want to experience greater satisfaction in their daily lives and address new and ongoing issues
  • connections with healthcare practitioners (MDs, nurses, NDs, acupuncturists, massage therapists, chiropractors, etc.) and life coaches
Education

I have a master's degree in applied behavioral science/counseling from Bastyr University/LIOS. I'm currently finishing my Ph.D. in mythological studies and depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. (I also have a master's in this.)

Experience

Seven years as a psychotherapist, community-agency counselor, and psychiatric hospital clinician have connected me with clients from diverse cultures, races, classes, religions, and sexual orientations. My training in counseling and psychotherapy is ongoing, and I attend workshops each year to hone my skills and to enhance the journey with clients.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked as a writer and editor for five years, and I continue to publish freelance work.
