Marcie Jaffee graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Columbia University. Marcie Jaffee currently serves as a researcher under the leadership of Dr. Barbara Imperiali and is a PhD candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Centering her lab efforts toward the study of glycosylation, Jaffee probes deeply into this complex biological process, which entails the enzyme-catalyzed alteration of proteins with complex carbohydrates to modify their configuration or function. In addition to her research efforts in the Imperiali lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Marcie Jaffee has procured technical training while studying a multitude of scientific subjects and methods. Delving into advanced scientific research as an Intern at Johns Hopkins Physics Department, Jaffee investigated the use of ferromagnetic nanowires in directed assembly of cells and co-authored an abstract entitled "Directed Cell Assembly with Magnetic Nanowires," which was submitted to the 2006 American Physical Society. She later took part in Columbia's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program, where she spent a summer and two semesters working in the lab of Dan Kalderon. During the summer of 2007, Marcie Jaffee gained further training at the National Center for Biotechnology Information in the lab of L. Aravind.
