  • This is a vital wake-up for grandiose dreamers... thank you for calling it straight. Deserves a higher rating than it's gotten (so far).

  • I sat to your left at Awilda's event today. Would love to go through this process the next time you offer it (or this time, if space opens up). Might I get on your waiting list for the next series?

  • Awilda, You are truly thoughtful to eliminate introductions in favor of spending the time on voice content! That seems like a very good trade-off to me, as we Biznikkers can find out all about each other on our online profiles. Using that time for substantive information seems very wise-- my hope is that the practice will catch on in other Biznik events:-) Thank you for starting the trend. And-- so as not to take up class time with adoration-- let me say right here that your voice on the demo is utterly ethereal!

  • Ugh, a last-minute interview came up that is going to tie me up. Very regretfully I must cancel. However swine flu did not cross my mind as a reason not to come. I hope the Swine won't interfere with SHINE, but who knows how rampant it will be by then. Purell stock, anyone?

  • Ack, now I see that rather than an early arrival I'll be guilty of a late one... 5:45 pm by my best guess. Is that too late? I hope not. At least it will permit a more leisurely catch up~

  • I have an engagement at 5ish, but hope you won't mind my joining for the first hour. Great idea for an event... Will be wonderful to catch up with you both, albeit briefly~

  • Truly your wise words, if implemented on a grand scale, are going to be our national salvation from a wretched economy. Their importance can't be overstated. Thank you.

  • Somebody's in luck! I accidentally double-booked, so have to withdraw. Judging from the interest level, I'm guessing someone will take my place~

    enjoy the selling...

  • I apologize for the late notice of my cancelation, but an unforeseen deadline bodes an all-nighter for a client in Europe. I hope to attend in the future, especially if you do one in Seattle.

  • Karolyn, come!! Because of logistics and filming, we can only have 20 active participants, but anyone's welcome to be in the room to observe, and also to hang out for the networking part.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR 2/20, HAS BEEN MOVED TO 2/27, same place and time.

  • I am utterly swamped, and since the rsvp list has gotten so large (with 5 spots left) I will regretfully withdraw. Will you do one on the west side ever? That would be fantastic. Best of luck with it~

  • Hi Howard,

I see that this terrific event is already full, but I'm going to come to Mosaic anyway, in case there's a last-minute spot that opens up. If not, no worries, I'll have a coffee out in the cafe.

    thanks, Margaret

  • Hi Tshombe, Your comments are very helpful as I look back over the tone of the cold open article, especially toward the end. Apparently I felt compelled to stress the possible dangers of the technique. I like your suggestion of adding the word "informed" to gamble, and will gladly edit it in. As for an example of a product dictating a strategy other than the cold open, Depends-type adult undergarments comes to mind. Users and potential customers probably already feel self-conscious, and any further challenge, disorientation, or mindgame would likely seem gratuitously insensitive to that reality. In that situation, a more traditional, discreet, compassionate intro would be more appropriate.

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, Tshombe. Thank you to Kate, (above) too for the positive thoughts~

  • Thanks to everybody for the generous feedback... and for not letting me fall into that gaping abyss of silence that sometimes occurs after publication:-)

Take heart-- all writers struggle with some part of the equation, be it thinking through the ideas, figuring out a clear flow structure for the piece, putting words together, or keeping the surface pretty. Persistence and seeking help are the twin keys to this city.
