  • Hello Jen - excellent question! I agree with your points, it can happen very quickly.

    In working especially with leaders, it is important for them to recognize that they set the tone, even if it is in their own area. I have coached leaders in creating an environment in their own division even when the rest of the organization is relatively closed. And, a transfer to that area can be a coveted move! Those leaders and their management team are often perceived as invaluable mentors and managers.

    The people who I have seen who are most successful at this are the ones who score very high on EQ assessments, have done a lot of inner work to fully realize their own gifts and talents, are very aware of the needs and aspirations of others, and will enage at that level. Their validation comes from within, and therefore, criticism and praise are appreciated but not needed. They become relatively immune.

    In a "closed" environment, these people will often shine because they are so different. It has been my experience that a person like this is sought out for advice and counsel, although it may be done privately.
