What Mark does
Mark Odougherty knows firsthand that students need compassion in order to do their best work. As a student, Mark Odougherty had his own fears about his chances at success, until an encouraging teacher helped him find his own potential. As an English teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mark Odougherty has always focused on motivating each of his students and applying his long expertise in his field. From 2003 to 2008, Mark Odougherty taught English in what he has called "an amazing suburban school," working with students in grades 9-12 . Astonished at what students can accomplish with just a little guidance, Mark Odougherty's other professional activities included service as a student council advisor. Mark Odougherty's passions are teaching and writing. A 2005 participant in the National Writing Project at the University of North Carolina, Mark Odougherty is thoroughly familiar with the resources, both inside and outside the classroom, students require for developing skills in writing. American Literature, British Literature, and adolescent literature are among Mark Odougherty's areas of pedagogical expertise. Mark Odougherty has also presented papers on the works of William Shakespeare at the University of North Carolina Literary Symposium. Mark Odougherty's literary interests extend into his personal life. An avid reader, Mark Odougherty enjoys the works of authors Flannery O'Connor, Robert Frost, Joseph Conrad, Maya Angelou, and Ernest Hemingway, among others. When he is not reading or relaxing by watching sports, Mark Odougherty also takes pleasure in fishing and cycling.
What Mark does best
As a former pharmaceutical salses manager, I learned a great deal about motivating sales forces and customers. These lessons served me well in education as I motivated hundreds of students to self-esteem and academic success. Sadly, the current state of the economy (national and personal) has forced me to leave education and re-enter the business world (my other professional passion) as I seek employment once again in the area of pharmaceutical sales
