Matt Vasgersian became one of the MLB Network's most visible on-air talents when he ushered in "MLB Tonight," the network's flagship program. As "MLB Tonight" lead anchor, Matt Vasgersian brings news and highlights from MLB teams every weekday evening to millions of homes. Matt Vasgersian honed his sports broadcasting talents during 18 years as an announcer for a number of major league and affiliate teams. A graduate of University of Southern California's Communications program, Matt Vasgersian began calling plays for the Chicago Cubs' Class-A Team in Huntington, West Virginia. Matt Vasgersian eventually called plays at every level in minor league baseball: Class-A High Desert (Padres '92), Double-A El Paso (Brewers '93-'94), and Triple-A Syracuse (Blue Jays '95) and Tuscon (Astros '96). In 1995, Matt Vasgersian handled play-by-play for "Baseball Across America," the minor league game of the week on ESPN2. Since 2005 Vasgersian has lent his voice to PlayStation's MLB: The Show series. The Fox Sports Net game show "Sports Geniuses," and USC Trojans Basketball are included among Matt Vasgersian's past credits. For 12 years prior to hosting "MLB Tonight", Matt Vasgersian sat behind the microphone as a Major League Baseball play-by-play man. From 2002 through 2008 Vasgersian was the lead television announcer with the San Diego Padres. Prior to his run in San Diego Vasgersian spent five years in the same capacity with the Milwaukee Brewers. Vasgersian has also enjoyed a regular role with FOX Sports, working play-by-play for "FOX Saturday Baseball" and "FOX NFL Sunday". Vasgersian's football work was recognized with assignments on FOX'S prestigious BCS Bowl games, the FedEx Orange Bowl in 2007 and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in 2008 and 2009. Matt Vasgersian remains committed to local charitable causes. Last year Vasgersian's annual Texas Hold 'Em Tournament benefited the San Diego Fallen Officers Fund and Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs - a Solana Beach based non-profit that trains service dogs to live with people in wheelchairs and families with autistic children. Past players in the field of roughly 300 have included athletes and celebrities such as Adrian Gonzalez, Chase Headley, Michael Barrett, Todd Zeile, Wally Joyner, Kurt Bevacqua, Mark Grant, Kevin Towers and 2007 WSOP Main Event Champion Jerry Yang.
