By accident, I have become the West Seattle and Ballard neighborhoods beat reporter for the Alaskan Way Viaduct, very local newspapers covering a very local story.

The issue has politics, competing economic interests, vested stakeholders, and nostalgic engineers. The story has allowed me to write about earthquake damage, transportation infrastructure, public tours, political agendas; from hard facts to light features.

I've also covered baby harbor seals, sunning themselves on Alki Beach and caught in a fisher's nets.
