  • Great remodeller or handy person, willing to take smaller jobs

    Hi all,

I am having a very hard time finding someone who will take on the job of remodeling my tiny kitchen. Apparently no one wants my money! What I hear over and over: "small jobs don't pay."

If you have anyone to suggest please post it here or contact me directly. Thanks! Ideally this will be someone who has done work for you in the past.

    Thank you very much, M-Jo

  • Online fax recommendations, esp. ones for tech dummies

Hi all, I am in the market for an online fax service. The ones I have looked at all seem to require a PhD in Computer Science to understand how they work and get set up. Any recommendations? Particularly if it is so easy to use that "even a bookkeeper can do it"? Thanks, M-Jo Baker

  • Is it just me or is Biz Talk getting a bit out of control?

    Hi all,

I am a bit concerned about the direction this Biz Talk is headed. Unfortunately, I am rapidly losing interest in what has been a really worthwhile and thoughtful forum.

It has been my experience that un- or loosely-moderated forums can degrade fast and far. I have no idea if this forum is moderated or how tightly, but I suspect that the owners of BizNik have better things to do with their time.

The purpose of Biz Talk reads: "Biz Talk is your place for discussing indie business. If you've got a question, post it here. If you have an answer, post it here. Announce events or specials you know about, or share cool new tools or tips." Key words: discuss, question, answer, announce, share.

There is a separate area of BizNik for promotions of our own businesses that I urge folks to use for that purpose (i.e."30 minutes of Free Life Coaching" or "Hi From Queen Anne Great Clips"). The lengthy slam war about the "Dump Qwest and Get Phone Lines for $14.99" is just silly. But I feel it reinforces my point since it started with a promotion.

I acknowledge that I can "vote with my feet" and stop looking at this portion of the 'site. But I feel civility is worth fighting for and preserving.

Or am I over reacting? Discuss...

  • Accounting/Bookkeeping Presentation Topics

    Hi all,

I am considering offering a Biznik event and would appreciate your suggestions for topics for a 1 hour educational presentation.

What topics would be of interest to you? What confuses you about accounting? What keeps you up at night? If you have been in business for a while please think back to when you were a newbie. What confused you most? What still confuses you?

    Some examples:

    • Employee vs. Independent Contractor: How to protect against ugly IRS penalties
    • How to Choose the Best Accounting Software for Your New Business
    • Tax Tips for the Self-Employed etc.

Thanks so much for your help,
