For almost ten years I have been the managing partner in a Chinese antique furniture and accessory business housed in a warehouse located on the Tacoma Tideflats. It was something I never imagined I would be doing, but after a trip to China in 2000 Rain Dragon Antiquities was born. I have three partners - two are Chinese nationals living in China, and one lives on Orcas Island now. Betsy Louton has lived in many places around the world and has settled, in retirement from her husband's Foreign Service life, in the San Juans.

There have been many challenges along the way, as there are with all small businesses; but meeting interesting people in our customers and colleagues has been a high point for me. Also, working with such lovely pieces - actually works of art in my opinion, that have such a sense of history - and learning about many aspects of Chinese culture, have both been unexpected pleasures.
