Nicole is as passionate about exceptional customer service as she is her art. She'll 'bust her glass' for her customers!
Each item is hand-made by owner and artist Nicole Whitney. Whitney's glass fused ceramic process begins with commonly used, traditional ceramic techniques. The addition of kiln melted, broken bits of recycled glass make the process unique. It sounds simple yet the result is brilliantly different. The inherent problems associated with combining the two mediums pose many physical challenges to the structural integrity of the pieces. The result of the process is; it’s a delicate balance between form and function.
The challenges have not stopped Paloma Pottery from pushing forward and continuously trying to find new uses for things that may otherwise be thrown away. Each piece is made by collecting glass jars, beer bottles etc. from roadsides, trails or any other place that people leave trash. "I then bust the glass into small particles and infuse them into pottery," describes Whitney. The unique shapes and positioning of each fragment insures each piece to have a sparkle and depth that is truly unique. The crackle glass surface created is smooth to touch and sparkles with profound rich colors and textures.
Employing economically responsible ideals to reduce, re-use, and recycle as a mission, Paloma Pottery emerged in Jan. 2000. "I was inspired to recycle glass within my pottery and when I saw the results I knew I had found my niche," says Whitney. Paloma Pottery as a business is equally as important to the artist as the pottery and glass pieces created. "I believe that social responsibility in business is simply good practice and good business," continues Whitney. "I am committed to customer service, following through with my word, and dedicated to encouraging and following sustainable business."
