Great points, Hsuan-Hua. In recent years I have replaced the word "failure" with "learning," and it makes a big difference in my ability to move forward. I recently spoke with a person who started a business that subsequently folded. When asked what expertise he had in that business, he replied that he obviously had no expertise. After all, he had failed.
I encouraged him to let go of the "failure" label and convert "what went wrong" into "what I'll do differently next time." He expressed surprise at what a difference that simple shift of perspective made for his confidence and well-being. Now he had plenty of expertise to share!
Failure is only failure when we don't acknowledge the learning. When we approach a "risky" endeavor with an attitude of expectation for learning, the fear of "failure" takes a back seat.

Lisa, this was a first-time experience for me, and definitely see the value of the process. Thank you for inviting me in. You are a gracious and informative host.

Sheesh! Wendy and DeBorah, I see that my previous message is a perfect example of why to use Spellcheck and why NOT to trust it! The laugh's on me.
You are welcome, Wendy. As a life coach, I enjoy helping others to craft affirmations and discover solutions that work for them.
Be well!

Fran, I always enjoy your clarity of expression and your offer of practical steps. Our success in life, business and relationships is directly proportionate to how closely our outer vision aligns with our inner vision.
Nice read.
Nina
Fran, I always appreciate your insights -- awakening me to a space I hadn't even contemplated. Thank you so much.
Nina
Jennifer and Sandra, thank you for good insights. You each "affirm" my message in different ways.
Jennifer, your method of countering what you don't want with an affirmation of what you do want, and maybe even what you feel already to some degree, is exactly in alignment with my experience of how this process works.
Sandra, I agree that keeping it short and simple makes it easier to carry with you, like a wallet instead of a heavy bag. (How's that for coupling it with an image!)
I enjoy receiving productive feedback to my thoughts. Thank you very much!

I've had a segment of Voice Dialogue training and look forward to a deeper understanding, and perhaps a greater level of comfort to apply the technique in my business.
Berry and Howard, thank you for a great presentation. I found the info from this "appetizer" valuable to me and my business, and I am confident that Berry's follow-up workshop can benefit many an entrepreneur!
Thank you both.

I'd find it easier to attend in Seattle during "regular" business hours. Enjoy this gathering, and hope to see you another time.

It's not working for me to show today. I hope to meet with you next time.

Awesome clarity -- well spoken! Congrats on the article, and I look forward to seeing it post to Biznik.

So, just for clarification, it appears to me that this whole "line" of scrolling communication about this topic is a blog in itself. Am I right?
Good observations, Mindy. I especially like your advice to "Make a list of those who you want to catch up with or learn more about." The key word here is "want." For the most powerful networking and support, focusing on those with whom you feel a natural draw or connection far outweighs the desperate reach to anyone and everyone. Sincerity can't be faked. Authentic interest in others and sincere willingness to give and share ideas and resources moves us forward every time.
Go with the gut!

I'd love to attend this event, but evening in Seattle doesn't work for me. Let me know when you do one on the Eastside, or during daytime hours in Seattle.
Have fun with it!

Fran, I found your presentation to be a practical demonstration of the principles so sweetly told in your book, Violet's Vision. I loved the take-aways, from the 10 thought-provoking quotations to the 5 Qualities tool. Thank you very much!

Kaya, you are right on. We are at choice to accept what is with grace or with angst, looking backward or looking forward. Maintaining a positive attitude is not about putting our head in the sand, but about seeing what we face and choosing what we learn in the process.
Adversity is an opportunity to be creative, to stretch, to challenge old beliefs and habits. This action strengthens and validates our core values, capability, and worthiness, and finding our strength enriches our experience.
Thanks for great perspective.

Helping women be paid to do what they love!
You're welcome, Betsy. The reverse is true as well -- that is, when someone asks what you do, tell them, but include who you are, why you do it, what passion it flames in you. Speaking to their heart, rather than to their head develops a more powerful relationship.
Good business to you!
Jane and Jack, I'm tickled that I was able to reschedule and attend this terrific event. Very participant-oriented, which took networking to a deeper level. Each one of the myths you presented was something I grew up with or something that comes up from my coaching clients. Thank you both for your attitude, insights, and gracious presence!
