Shiatsu is a lesser known Asian modality of massage that blends dynamic touch therapy with ancient chinese medicinal theory to create a beautiful client based experience in which the focus is bringing balance and clarity into our lives.
The Way Life Moves
Centering Practices of Shiatsu
a six week course | Fridays, 6:00 - 8:30 pm | April 11th - May 16th
cost: $300 for entire course, discount on early registration. $55 drop in
Learn to acquire a more centered sense of self within the everyday aspects of our lives. Through shiatsu theory, qi gong energy movement and touch communication, we will learn about attending to the truth of ourselves more fully.
In the first three weeks we’ll explore how movement teaches us to relate, express and find harmony. The movement portion of this workshop will be enriched by theoretical discussions of the Chinese 5-Elements and how they can help us see the world around us in a more integrated manner. We will consider how a broader, more functional perspective of daily life can enrich our experiences, lower our stress, and make us more productive both in our private and public lives. Techniques from stretching and meditation to new ways of engaging in relationships will be incorporated to give the student a more enlivened sense of self, health, and well being.
The final three weeks will teach a touch practice that supports being centered, moving toward what’s nourishing, away from what’s harmful, and making positive choices about the direction of our lives. We are constantly pulled and pushed toward things that we feel are important, yet cannot seem to understand why. The pace of our world confuses the senses and distracts us from feeling what it is that we truly need for our own health and sustainability. Through touch communication we can regain a sense of what it is our bodies and minds need in order to work with less effort and strain. Finding this balance is crucial to longevity of any kind be it career, relationships, or life. This portion of the workshop will provide us with new means of dealing with common stress ailments such as insomnia, irritable bowel, hypertension of the neck/back/shoulders/hips, and many more.
