What Peter does

A board certified neurosurgeon long dedicated to the care of serious neurological disease, Dr. Peter Zahos focuses his clinical interests on frameless Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), a procedure that involves the implantation of a brain pacemaker to regulate electronic impulses in the brain. Frameless DBS offers Dr. Zahos' patients a significant diminishment of tremors, dyskinesias, rigidity, dystonia, and other symptoms related to Parkinson's disease and movement disorders.

Receiving his MD from George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Zahos has worked as Director of the Brain Tumor Program at the Gelsinger Health System and Chief of Neurosurgery at Jacobi Medical Center. At the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Dr. Zahos oversaw the Department of Neurosurgery as Department Chair.

Currently, Dr. Zahos practices at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. At JFK, Peter Zahos directs the Institute's program on Movement Disorder Surgery and co-directs the program in Surgical Neuro-Oncology, where he contributes to advancements in the treatment of brain tumors.. Dr. Zahos is also interested in therapeutic gene delivery in the central nervous system and oncolytic viral therapy for brain tumors.

Dr. Peter Zahos maintains membership in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons, as well as number of other professional organizations. Peter Zahos has published and presented extensively in the field of neurosurgery.
