Embrace Change Like Your Happiness Depends On It
Change can be one of the most dreaded words people think of. Why is it that when we hear 'change' so often we assume this means that something is changing for the worst?
Change can be one of the most dreaded words people think of. When we hear change so often we assume this means there is something going from how we know it to worse. Even if the change will be for the better we automatically assume it will bring dread.
Fortunately for you, you can make the word change associate with positive and even welcoming thoughts and ideas. How? Change your mindset.
This is the first step in The Work It Mama! Coaching SystemTM, This is also where a lot of Moms get caught up. Changing your mindset involves a few basic principles including:
1. Thinking of every opportunity as a positive.
2. Being willing to learn from each experience.
3. Learning how to turn situations around so you benefit from them.
Today we're going to look at these three (though there are many more) principles. First, think of every opportunity, no matter how awful it may seem at first, as a positive experience. This is extremely important because some of the best developments we do personally and professionally come from the mistakes we make and situations we did not plan on ever having to encounter.
If you choose to view every opportunity as a positive one, you'll find your outlook is far more optimistic and in turn no matter what life throws your way, you're able to handle it with grace and dignity. Now take this one step further. We all know there are no perfect people, but think of the people who always seem to have it together. Sure they have bad days but you know what, they don't sit and have pity parties on those days.
Instead, they get up, dust themselves off, and keep moving with a smile on their face. This wouldn't be such a bad practice to adopt. Especially if you find yourself in a trying time in your personal or professional life right now.
The second principle is being willing to learn from each experience. This goes closely with number 1. You have to be willing to learn from the bad as well as good experiences in your life. So often we are more than willing to embrace the experiences that go well.
However we need to do the same for those that do not. When you choose to learn from every experience you find yourself not repeating the same mistakes. That you'll find is an excellent way to increase your productivity and even attract more positive experiences in your life.
But wait, how exactly do you learn from every experience so you don't continue to make the same mistakes? Simply by learning how to turn situations around so you benefit from them. This actually is pretty fun to do. Yes, even when things aren't going so well for you.
Here's how:
1. Stop and think about your situation.
2. Ask yourself how you got into this situation. Really think this over. Maybe it was going against your gut, not taking time to yourself, etc.
3. Think about what you're learning in this situation (i.e., patience, trust, etc.).
4. Give back. No matter what you have, be sure to give something back to someone else, whether it's time, a monetary donation, etc. Giving back to those less fortunate when we're going through tough times ourselves always puts things into perspective.
5. Find little things to enjoy each day. Your family, friends, a completed project in your business. These little successes add up and can keep you from feeling even lower.
6. Write down what you learned when you find yourself starting to feel a bit better and your situation improving. This will commit those things to memory and help you avoid being in that place again.
Here is your assignment, if you're going through a tough time right now in your personal life or career, go through the steps above. Give yourself 1 week and really do what it says above. Then write down how you feel a week from now after having gone through this exercise.
