What Rebecca does

My art, strongly influenced by nature, explores relationships and how those bonds or their dissonance form beauty in the world. I look to the human form, shells, plants, flowers, rocks for inspiration. Charcoal, water based mediums and encaustic, with its glorious texture, heady beeswax scent and ethereal surface, express my love of nature.

Informed by a childhood in the Pacific Northwest, I strive for sustainable practices in my studio and earth friendly materials in my mediums. I have always embraced a green heart; the eco-movement is a global expression of my personal blueprint. My art stands as an example of what it means to be a sustainable artist seeking kinship between art, nature and the human experience. It offers hope so we may remember the interconnectedness of life.

"One touch of nature makes the whole world kin." - William Shakespeare

What Rebecca does best

encaustic paint, abstract expressionist painting, abstract figurative, sew, invent, come up with a gazillion ideas, network, socialize, build relationships.

What does Rebecca need?

Opps to sell my work and network with other people interested in exploring sustainable fine art.

Education

I studied medical illustration and graphic design at UT Medical School during high school summers. Enjoyed having my work published in several medical text books. BA, Smith College, Northampton, MA, studying with artists like Dwight Pogue, Gary Niswonger, Carl Chiarenza and James Rosenquist. Printing scholarships and attendance at Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX. Studied photography, printmaking, illustration.

Experience

I have worked in the museums in Houston and Portland, launched my own graphic arts biz, got bored and never completed a masters in Public Administration and been CEO of a placenta registry in Portland, OR. I am also the Portland leader for Ladies Who Launch.

In between this work, I remain an artist. The skills I learned working in these environments and as an entrepreneur have only strengthened my ability to talk about, market and sell my art. Every bit of it funnels back into my artwork.
