Counselor / Therapist

What Robert does
I run a private practice called Folktown Counseling located in the historic Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. I do general counseling, psychotherapy and mentoring. The aim of my practice is to help individuals find greater meaning in their lives by partnering with them in a therapeutic relationship.
What Robert does best
In addition to general counseling with people all types, I specialize in working with artists and I am familiar with many of the difficulties common in creative people.
These difficulties often result from unstable work environments, touring, dual vocations or balancing life demands between artistic solitude, family and community.
What does Robert need?
My practice recently transitioned from several days a week to full time and I now have several openings for new clients.
Education
I received a Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychology in the summer of 2006. My training was based in a psychodynamic approach to counseling and included a theological/post-modern foundation where philosophy, theology and even literary fiction were introduced alongside contemporary psychological theory.
Experience
While in private practice, I served for two years as a clinician for Sound Mental Health counseling adults who struggle with social issues, homelessness and severe psychopathologies.
Following the completion of my Liberal Arts Degree in 1990 and prior to my graduate studies I worked in the music industry as a recording artist. My artistic work continues to this day alongside my counseling practice and I enjoy incorporating an artistic influence to my work with people.
In 2007 I helped create The Broken Prophets Fund, a 501 (c) grant that provides assistance to professional artists seeking counseling and a coalition of counselors dedicated to serving the arts community.
