  • Len, Thanks for providing a testimonial on how an alternative health care system works. As someone who has spent the past 10 years on health care process improvement issues I am glad biznik is including this conversation. I always am amused by the veterans who are against national health care, while they are covered by one of our more successful social medical models, the Veterans Administration. For those who aren't aware, more than half of the health care is already provided by a collective effort of us all, the government, through Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs. What we should really be talking about is how we can cut administrative waste in health care delivery, reduce unnecessary procedures, tort reforms, and simplification. Everyone should be very concerned about wastefull spending, which is not sustainable at 25% more than any other country in the world. With the boomers hitting Medicare eligibility, costs are going to skyrocket for that government program. The public private debate simply obfuscates the real issues, providing primary care to everyone, cutting the waste, increasing the supply of primary care clinicians, and yes, simplification for all of the vendors. I published an article on health care reform in 2002, which addressed how to approach the different stakeholders and build a better system for health care. I republished that this month, as it is still germane. You can find it at healthpolicymaven.blogspot.com. I know we can create a much more effective health care system, just like the country has come together for environmental stewarship.

  • Aaron, I really like your article and think it is very valid. I have had to fend off a lot of advice from people wanting me to make my site more traditional, including the "head shot". I went for the candid shot. Also, I am a content fan and really try to update my site monthly, with a link to my blog, which is updated weekly. I think a website is so much more than a brochure, it can be a valueable learning tool. I don't want to do it if I am not adding value. Roberta Winter, the healthpolicymaven

  • Hi St. Olafer, I definitely want to go to bloggers bootcamp. I have made one attempt at a blog, but I have not consistently worked at it, bloggers block I guess. I do have writing I want to post, I just need the proverbial boot! Is it possible to have this in an daytime setting as opposed to the evening thing? If everyone is independent can't they schedule time for a business event anyway?

  • Dan, In reading the extensive messaging on this, it brings to mind the impression that some folks have waaay too much time on their hands. I wonder if this process is a turnoff for some members and potential new members. Is this a social network or a business network?
