I understand that Discover U, a meeting place in Belltown, closed its doors this week, leaving lots of lecturers and attendees stranded. Discover U was a sort of on-line registration with physical meeting space for everything from crocheting to yoga.
I don't know much about Discover U, but I do know that there is a lack of affordable meeting space for everything from CPA classes to knitting classes. Sometimes you just don't want strangers in your living room and the local bar or coffee shop just does not work!
There are some great alternatives out there including public buildings such as schools and libraries and clubs such as the Swedish center that have great spaces at very low costs. The people stranded after the Discover U closure need to know about these. There are also new drop in business centers recently featured in USA Today. Locally, there is My Day Office in Belltown with open work areas, day offices and conference rooms at less than have hotel or conventions center costs. Please check us out at www.MyDayOffice.com.
There are also co-working space alternatives such as Office Nomads who open up their space for classes and events, check them out!
