What Shayla does

I design much of my jewelry line using metals of all sorts. I do most of my own metalsmithing. I use semi-precious gemstones and other beautiful gems.

The goal I constantly strive for is to make jewelry for every woman and every event. My designs range from cool & chic to classy & sexy to funky & fun and so on!

I want any woman to walk into my studio or into any boutique that carries Shay D.Design and be able to find the perfect piece to finish her outfit for whatever the occasion may be!

What Shayla does best

I feel my best skill is remaining open to new ideas and using my imagination toward my design process. I am an artist and I love that I can use that skill with my jewelry.

I also love talking to women about jewelry and the occasion for which the jewelry is to be worn. Whether it is business related, a ladies night out, or just that simple favorite everyday pair of earings!

What does Shayla need?

I simply want to meet other business women who want to network and help eachother network. I know we all have something to offer one another, we just don't know eachother yet!

Education

High School Diploma.
As for college, I majored 1 year in Art.

I am a self taught entrepreneur. I started taking my jewelry making more seriously in 2006 and took classes at local jewelry rescources, like Jewelry Resource & Supply, where many skilled instructors flew in from Portland and as far as the Czech Republic to teach.

I obtained a business licence and just figured it out as I went. I approached my first local boutique in Wallingford and asked if she'd like to see some of my jewelry to perhaps carry in her store in 2006. She put her order in with me that day and that was my first commission based transaction.

I then went on to a few other local boutiques of which I was familiar and shopped myself. I got such positive feedback that I just kept going. Learning some valuable lessons along the way. I took class after class after class and I still take them every chance I get to learn something new.

Experience

My experience with metalsmithing and jewelry designing started when I just made my own jewelry or made jewelry for gifts. The more I wore my own pieces, the more I was asked "where did you find that, where can I get one?" I realized I could fo something with this!

That was in 2006 when I started taking all of the classes that I needed to learn the basic wire wrapping techniques on up to advanced metalsmithing. And I always want to learn more.
