Let's save 90 million pages. In 6 months.
Each year, American screenwriters print more than 180 million sheets of
paper. Greenwriter.org wants to cut that number in half in just six months.
Greenwriter.org is a web service created to change the way Hollywood
studios, producers, and writers buy and sell screenplays. The service will be
free to screenwriters, and charge a nominal monthly fee to
studios and producers.
The environmental savings are only a part of the overall green benefit.
Beyond drastically cutting paper waste, Greenwriter.org also saves wasted
time and energy by creating a platform where studios and producers can
access the essential elements of each screenplay before they commit to
reading it, saving thousands of dollars in unproductive hours every year.
Greenwriter.org enables studios and producers to access detailed
information about the writer and the work in order to quickly and
accurately create coverage reports directly from their personal online
account. The site's advanced search engine will allow a producer quick
access to screenplays within any genre, sub-genre, or even search strings as
vague as "chase movie on foot."
The Greenwriter.org mandate is to make it easier for producers, directors,
actors and agents to find great material while at the same time encouraging
writers to upload their screenplays to the database instead of the printer,
maintaining a green initiative that will help the environment.
In addition to guarding the environment, the site also guards writers'
intellectual property rights with ironclad online security and mandatory
registration of all uploads with the Writers Guild of America.
Greenwriter.org officially launches at the end of the summer but will begin
pre-registration in early July. The service will be available for any
screenplay written in English.
