Before we used drugs, computers, and other things to ameliorate our pain, there was massage therapy, and I believe in its effectiveness for treating serious dis-ease. Therapeutic massage involves manipulation of soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress. Having experienced these benefits first-hand, my intent is to provide reprieve from physical distress and to encourage education around the physiological and psychological benefits of massage. I'll do everything possible to ensure that the experience people have when they come to me for massage is positive and rewarding, and I trust that folks will learn to expect a peaceful and comfortable environment, one that fosters the art-and science-of massage as a modality for improving their overall health. I enjoy working on specific injuries and tender spots, but appreciate the value of a relaxing massage as well, particularly because I have an understanding of the benefits of massage on mental health; these days, with so much of an emphasis on production, stress levels seem to be high, making massage another good option for self-care.
I'm also a believer in touch, period. We're taught to receive touch from lovers, and maybe friends, but having received TONS of massage over an extended period of time, I'm convinced that that isn't nearly enough. When I receive massage, I feel hopeful, loved, capable of moving in directions that will promote life, not hinder it. To maintain my well-being, I need to feel these things on a regular basis. My thought is, why not share these benefits with people while making a living doing it?
