  • Hi Kelly,

I just wanted to give you a shout out and say...you go girl! I did a post on being honest as well just last Friday on my blog and I agree wholeheartedly that it is sooooooo very important. Being honest seems like a risky proposition because we are afraid we'll lose something (that paying client, that cool job, etc). It moves people out of their comfort zone and shakes things up. But I believe the fallout from it, if there is any, is for the best in the big scheme of things.

Feel free to check out my post if you get a sec...http://trulytwistedmarketing.com/honesty-a-risky-proposition

It's nice to know there are other people out there on the same wavelength!

  • Just to update you guys :-)...

I'm going with creloaded 62 pro mainly because someone gave it to me. It's php based and looks pretty cool but I'd like to know if anyone knows anything either good or bad about it.

And Gina, I'll drop you a line when I'm a little further along. You can take a look at the page I have up here...bestecostuff.com.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

  • Hey thanks for all the information! LOL...Knew there was no easy answer.

I actually work for an online retailer where I handle all the marketing. We use product cart but I wanted something a little different. Shopify (that Dan mentioned above) is pretty cool but the domain structure works like a yahoo store so not crazy about that but might be cool just as a place to start for kicks.

I will definitely check out joomla and droopal and e-junkie. What's fun about this little project is my life doesn't hinge on it. Just something I'm getting together to throw out there that can grow. :-) Plus will be FUN!

Again, thanks for all your thoughts!

  • Hi Mikelann,

Know I'm jumping in here late but wanted to add my two cents to this and point out that women and men DO interact differently to marketing messages - both online and in print. Barry is right, blogher.org is a great place to network and build up awareness for your product. You might also check out startupprincess.com - they routinely do features on women like yourself who are in business which would be helpful in building your brand and exposing you to a lot of new and interesting women business owners.

For all you men...I just want to point out that anyone, male or female, can tackle this project depending on their skill level. However, I think what Mikelann is looking for is an intuitive understanding of what it's like to be a woman in today's business world and trying to make a living. If you haven't lived through the experience of being a woman and faced the issues she's addressing "earning your worth" it's difficult to create a message that will speak authentically.

  • Hi Sean,

if you need a .net programmer, check out Calvin Luttrell...http://biznik.com/members/calvin-luttrell. Not sure about his availability but never hurts to ask. He knows his stuff and he's also in California. :-)

    Good luck!

I just realized I probably posted this in the wrong place. But I'll definitely drop Dan an email about it. Not a huge deal but was curious about what happened and wondering if I was missing something, somewhere.

  • Thanks guys!

I greatly appreciate it. I personally use wordpress but for this project two of the company blogs have already been setup on typepad so was hoping to be able to integrate it.

I'll check out that subtextproject link.

  • LOL! Yes, I do know about blogher and thanks for pointing it out. It's a good group - I'm listed with them. But I gues I'm really wondering, "is that it?" And there are so many bloggers out there, I still think (while 7100 women bloggers is impressive) it's still a drop in the bucket.

Barry, you are a brave man, jumping in with all these women...lol!

  • Thanks for the comments all the way around!

There ARE a lot of women who are blogging coaches which is really interesting and probably means something really profound! :)I think there are TONS of women out there blogging.

I want to offer up a place, maybe even a permanent place, where they (we)can come together, share blog stories, blog marketing tips, etc. and help promote one another in the blogosphere.

  • Thanks, Rebecca. Sounds like you and I have similar issues - time (or lack of it). Actually, I'm looking for information from women in general on their blogs. Business blogs most definitely count!

  • Actually, I think people do care about their health. They care about living longer, looking and feeling younger, weight loss and less invasive drugs and treatments to use when they face an illness. I believe Acupuncture and Chinese herbs all help in each of those areas and many more.

Your marketing is built into the very fiber of what you do. It doesn't get much more exciting than that! You can offer people solutions to not only their health problems but also help them maintain their state of well being. That's a far more valuable proposition than the next big tech gadget or software platform.

In truth, you have an advantage because you get to speak with your clients one-on-one about how you can help solve their problems. And you have the opportunity to educate them on you and your business so they can, in turn tell their circle of friends and family utilizing the best kind of marketing there is...word of mouth.

  • 'Tristan & Isolde' is my newest favorite movie.

But also a fan of 'The Matrix' (all of them) and 'Something's Gotta Give' (romantic comedy).

I own 'Room With a View' and 'Love Actually' - Both really good movies in very different ways!

Posted Jan 15, 2007 Switching A Static Site to a Blog - Anyone Know the Pros and Cons? a conversation started by Sonya Neblett
  • Great. Thanks for the information. I found myself recommending a blog instead of a web site just day before yesterday for a really small nonprofit, here in Asheville, figuring it would be easier and cheaper for them as they want to set it up and manage it themselves. That came on the heals of my big idea about turning my old site into a blog.

I have a really strong interest in social media and one of the things that blows my mind is the exposure that comes with blogging. It's not nearly as difficult from an SEO standpoint to get a blog ranking from ground zero as it is a static web site - at least that's been my experience so far.

  • I just received this in my email box from MediaPost?s ?Marketing Daily? and thought it might be of some interest to the writer?s group. Here?s a basic rundown of the release?

Gather.com (a social networking site) partnered with Touchstone imprint of Simon & Shuster to run a contest on the site where unpublished authors can submit a manuscript of full length fiction.

Each entry?s first chapter will be posted on the site and users will vote on the top 20. The top 20 will then post their second chapters online and the top ten from that group will be voted on. The top ten will post their third chapters and the voting will continue until the fourth round where the entire manuscripts will be evaluated by judges from Simon & Shuster and Boarders.

  • How far away is Seattle, WA from Asheville, NC again? Think I could commute? :)

Writer's groups are a fabulous way to trade ideas, trade projects and get inspired (everyone's got a story). They can also lead to some interesting business connections.

Here is the a breakdown for the MySpace (older generation) users compared to other types of social networks from Comscore.

I'd be very interested in attending (um, well, if it's actually possible from waaaaay over here). This looks like a good one!

  • The first book that springs to mind isn't really new. It's The Four Agreements.

1.Be impeccable with your word 2.Don't take anything personally 3.Don't make assumptions 4.Always do your best ;-) sounds pretty easy doesn't it....

Open Source development is really interesting. From what I know about it (which isn't tons) it's got the potential to really change things up on the web and possibly even extend into how the search engines currently index sites.

You know, I just hadn't thought about business meetings being like dates! That's pretty funny and I think kind of true!!!
