  • Hi Shannon. I think people definitely should tweet a few personal things once in a while to show personality - not just business. It's my experience that people skip right over tweets from the same person that are strictly business all the time. Just sayin'!

Beverly: you might want to check out tweetbeep to get notified when something of interest in tweeted. I use it and have got two clients from this service. Check it out.

Dan: would LOVE to see Twitter feed directly on Biznik. Right now I have it hooked up to my (personal) blog and my (personal) facebook status. I'm hitting over 1000 people/tweet. It would be great for business networking to see it on here - another way to get to know people and connect.

  • Thanks for the invite, would LOVE to attend however, it's just too far from BC Women's and I'm just too close to due date!!! :)

  • @Marianna: I guess the word sweetie is the 2008 version of the, well, 19 Eighty-Eight version! I think falling down is all part of it, it's how we get back up that counts - and that we DO!

@James: You're so right. Speaking "heart to heart" or "market to market". It's all about the passion for what you do. Passion gets across. Enthusiasm sells. They'll remember you and that connection - even if they didn't really feel the vibe, they will (in my experience) always remember your enthusiasm for your product, etc, and you just never know where that will lead.

@Crystal: you know, there really is an art and a magic to it. Thanks for mentioning that. Some people are shy and nervous - but the Art of it can be learned. It's the magic that comes from the passion.

Thanks for your feedback everyone, helps me to learn more!

  • I'm trying to add a link to my website in a new promotion I've posted however the formatting doesn't seem to work. I'm doing as listed under "Formatting Help" but typing it as this: (http://www.scratchpadsecretaries.com/) but it doesn't show as a link, just shows as typed. Help?!

  • Was great to get together with the Vancouver contingency AND to delve into the back-end of Biznik and navigating the site.

Might be a great idea to introduce video tutorials along this line as well... just a thought!

    Good to meet everyone!

  • Thanks Howard! My personal FAQ section! I swear, I didn't even see it. As big and bright and bold as it is, I totally missed it. Thanks again :)

  • Jim, that's a GREAT point! Get someone else to tell you what you do. Hmm... I'm going to use that concept! Thanks.

  • Hi Arne, thanks for your comment. For a small business such as mine, it's surprising at how detailed you can get when going through this process. But I'm such a details person, which is a good thing in this circumstance!

  • HI Richard, I agree that works for some people. Just not all (for example when I quit smoking, I was overwhelmed with that "end date" that I smoked more! Happy to say I quit on my own terms, and not under the threat of ie: Thursday, Sept 30). Thanks for your comment.

  • Thanks for writing this article! It brings up two things for me. The first is my own writing. I'm much better at creative writing than business writing. That's not holding me back from blogging, submitting articles, etc, because as I write more, I'll get better.

And on a lighter note: I have always wanted to draw. I have these tremendous characters in my head that I want to see come to life on paper. I've taken years and years of drawing lessons (only a few years ago at that...I'm not talking when I was a kid!) to finally stop and say, "Stephanie, face it. YOU CAN'T DRAW." So I stopped putting so much money into classes, stopped stressing myself, and just accepted that I cannot draw to save my life! There are experts out there who can help me!

Thanks for the article, it motivates me to keep writing. And NOT drawing! :)

  • Even jus the phrase "work/life balance" can be triggering as we've tried so hard and for so long to reach that place - in the corporate world.

In the entrepreneurial world, however, the words "harmony" and "flow" are much much more suitable. And not triggering! It's passionate work we do!

Thanks for your comments, you've inspired a blog post. Will keep you in the loop!

  • As a very small business, my business plan isn't typical. It's a living beast really, forever changing and growing and living and breathing. It's not for the bank, it's for me. My first one was on post-it notes (and it worked so well I might go back to this "template". Easy to change around!)

Great article, thanks for sharing your insight!

  • Thank you, Kaya, for the informative article! I have "newsletter" on my to-do list but didn't know where to start... autoresponders, formatting, list building, ay-yi-yi! You've totally pointed me in the direction I need to be going in!

  • I charge hourly (2-hour minimum) for "in and out" clients and I have various packages that are pre-paid. All payments are due prior to client receiving their final copy and via paypal only (except Canadians - we accept onlline interac; it's very popular and very easy!).
