Prior to our move north, I want to plan for future growth (we'll be located on the outskirts of a small town not currently served by a food pantry.
While researching non-profit status - and reflecting on where I've been spiritually/financially/physically, I've realized that I really have no interest in getting involved in the "business" of non-profit organization; i.e. the reports, board meetings, agendas, fundraising, publicity, inter-agency cooperation, etc.
I'm not knocking non-profits; it's just that experience total satisfaction just doing the relatively hassle-free, low key operation I now have.
I am concerned that if I were to seek non-profit status that I would lose control of my organization - which is currently me and two on-call volunteers who also have no desire to get any further involved.
Is there a way to become a non-profit and have a very small board of directors that are perhaps appointed by me and existing members or are strictly family members?
Once we move we had thought of operating out of a 30x40 heated pole barn that includes a small office.
Gosh, I don't know if I'm making sense here but, I'd appreciate feedback. Please keep in mind that I am currently low key, anonymous and will remain that way until we move (probably next fall). [less]
