  • WANTED: Event space for NYE09 with capacity of ~150ish

I'm planning to produce an exceptional NYE09 party featuring live music and dance, but still need to nail down the space. Will consider trades, or just straight rental payment. If a preferred caterer comes with the space, will also consider a guarantee of food/refreshments sales in exchange for space.

  • H.O.T. Concert - Friday, June 13th

Seattle Folklore Society & South Seattle Community College present House of Tarab (aka "H.O.T.") in a vintage Arabic concert accompanied by world class belly dancers DELILAH and SUZANNA!

Friday, June 13th, 7:30pm at OIympic Hall "Tarab" is a state of ecstasy and surrender one enters while listening with body and soul to music, whether it's the dancing strings of the Oud, the weeping melody of the Violin, the mystical call of the Nay, or the pulsating rhythm of the Drums. Based in Seattle, House of Tarab performs traditional Arabic music of the golden age (40's-70's) from Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria. Reflecting a traditional Middle Eastern ensemble format of the past three centuries called "tekht," H.OT. features Nay, Oud, Riqq, and Tabla. At the turn of the century, Violin and Double Bass instruments were introduced to this traditional "tekht" to reflect the contemporary pieces being composed at that time. H.O.T.'s shows are in high demand throughout the Puget Sound and beyond. H.O.T.'s individual members have been performing internationally and nationally for over a decade. Learn more at www.houseoftarab.com.

DELILAH is an internationally acclaimed belly dance performer and instructor, widely known for her breathtaking and deeply inspiring performances. She learned the dance form as it was passed on and popularized in the US by first and second generation immigrants from Lebanon, Armenia, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Morocco, and Greece. Her years of devoted study and practice have led her to become one of the foremost teachers and innovators in the field of belly dance today. Learn more at www.visionarydance.com.

SUZANNA has studied Middle Eastern dance locally and internationally for over a decade, training with Egypt's most renowned contemporary artists. Captivated by the essence of music, movement, and story, she infuses her Egyptian style with her extensive background of jazz, West African, modern, and ballet, and 12 years in the theatre. Her performances are featured weekly throughout the Seattle area. Information on her classes and events can be found at www.planetsuzanna.com.

The " House of Tarab" invites you in. Welcome home. The door is open. "Salamu Alaikum"

  • Traditional Live Arabic Music & Belly Dance@HABESHA!

How about some culture, served in a calabash of fun? The cocktails are as good or better than where ever else you might spend your Friday night, so gather up your friends and come support live music and dance!

FRIDAY 3/21 -- 9:30pm at HABESHA, a gorgeous new downtown Seattle venue, located at 1809 Minor Ave. (Minor & Howell), Seattle, WA 98101 (on the same block as ReBar)

FEATURING: --Stephen Elaimy on Oud --Jane Hall on Percussions --Belly dance show by SUZANNA --Short open dance to live Arabic classics

Parking is a breeze. It's validated on adjacent (north) lots and across the street. So no excuses. See you this Friday!

ABOUT HABESHA ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT: I am proud to bring my friends and community to such an exquisite and classy venue. The Manhattan style decor flaunts a cascading full bar (and they know how to use it) with exposed brick walls tastefully decorated with vibrant traditional Ethiopian artwork surrounding the open dining area, infused with the amber glow of artistic ceiling lamps. Graceful service with dinner prices around $9-$14. Kids OK in the restaurant seating area.

The kitchen closes at 10:00, so be on time or earlier if you expect to feast on savory and fresh Ethiopian cuisine. For reservations call (206) 624-0801.
