The “GO! Group” and the “GO! Network Lead Generator” -Marcia Ridgeway

I had the pleasure of speaking with Terri Dunevant, author of, “GO! How to Start and Run Your Own Business Advisory Board.” Her first book, “The Staircase Principle Applied to the Salesperson.” Won the 2008 Sales Book Awards Silver Medal.

While in the company of this empowering and energetic individual, we spoke about the making of the “GO! Group” and how technology and expertise by one man has made it so exciting to market through “My Way Interactive.” Please note, in the last paragraph of this interview you will be given information on how to join this new and FREE technology. You'll also receive 2-for-1 on Terri's new book,“GO! How to Start and Run Your Own Business Advisory Board!!"
Where did you get the idea for the “GO! Group”?
Actually, it was the idea of a man by the name of Napoleon Hill. He came up with this idea in the early 1900’s and called it the “Mastermind” group. It was his concept that like-minded individuals, (i.e. shares similar opinions, values and levels of commitment) dedicated and knowledgeable associates with complementary resources could come together and share valuable information from their own networking. This theory is the impetus behind my “GO! Group.”
OK. So these people get together and share their information. What does that do for you?
What does it do for everyone in the group? Think about it. We all have different ways of approaching different situations. What works for one person may work for others. They have resources that I’d like to access and vice versa. When I get stuck, it certainly is encouraging to know that when I get together with my people, I’m sure to come out of it with new information and a renewed sense of “GO!” When you find yourself with a case of “motivation block” they can encourage you. When you are frustrated or discouraged and being counterproductive, they can help you acknowledge that. This advisory board will continually help you to “GO!” further as it refines itself in the process as long as you, the facilitator remain steadfast to your vision. As creator of a “GO! Group” you choose the who, the how, the when and the where. While being the “leader and facilitator”, everyone is considered a business peer. The beauty is that everyone benefits.
You’ve made the decision to assemble a “GO! Group”. Where do you begin?
Know what makes you who you are. What are your strengths? Where are you headed and what do you bring to the table to get there? How do others perceive you? In the back of my book, “GO! How to Start and Run Your Own Business Advisory Board”, are assessment tools primarily for groups to use in improving their communication and leadership skills. I suggest the group facilitator utilize these tools before getting started. Especially if they are unsure of the path they are going to take. Also, considering your profession and the professions of those in vertical markets (i.e. bakery, restaurant, caterer) and those in horizontal markets (i.e. speakers on various subjects) is key.
How do you decide who will best compliment your profession and your group?
The best way to begin this process is by picking 25 of your favorite “peeps” from your database. Mark the ones whose business you consider to be either horizontal or vertical to your profession. You should not be able to consider any of these choices as competitors. Remember, you want to be able to work with someone whom you can refer. Then, mark the ones that you believe to be like-minded while taking into consideration the times this person has referred you.
Importantly, consider those people whose skills you do not possess. Think about how knowing the skills that you don’t, can be helpful to you and the group as a whole. If someone from your list is in a complimentary industry but isn’t particularly like minded, it might be in your favor to consider this person for your group. On the other hand, if you know someone who is like-minded and has referred you often but in a completely different industry with only your skills as a common ground, that might not be a good choice. You’ll know, as you go through the process, who YOUR “GO! Group” people are going to be. I understand that, you are offering free sign up to what you call the “GO!
