Hi, Vanessa,
What kind of dance? Couples dance lessons?
E-mail me and let's talk!
Valerie
I'm sorry I won't be able to make it, after all! Have fun & I'll be at the next one!
Great question, Tammy! I can say that, for my part, traveling more than about 20 minutes outside my stomping grounds is rare for networking events. I try to focus the bulk of my networking efforts in the community where I live and work. I consider networking another way of building community, and for me there's a benefit to staying local with that, at least most of the time.
That being said, I've attended a couple of Bob & Judy Dunn's events in Renton and really enjoyed being there. If there's an unusual event that catches my eye that's in Tacoma or otherwise outside of my normal area, I'll certainly try to make it! What I'm realizing is that there is a lot of GOOD out there - good events, good people, etc. And I just can't do everything that's good - I have to choose what's best for my life and my business. Staying local is part of that for me.
I look forward to hearing more from other Bizniks on this topic!
Elke, thanks for reminding us about the wonderful benefits we experience as members. And thanks also for encouraging members to upgrade their level of participation/membership in Biznik! I became a supporting member very early in my business, when $24/month was a bit of a stretch. It was an investment that has paid itself back a hundred-fold (probably more, but who's doing math!?!).
If you're a newer member or an oldie considering a Supporting Membership, from my experience I can share that you won't regret bumping up your membership level!
Bob, this is GREAT! Until recently I didn't even know there was a difference between .com and .org for Wordpress. Thanks for summarizing some of the main differences and laying out the pros and cons of each.
Judy, what a timely and truth-telling article! It fits in with something I've been mulling over lately, which is narrowing the focus of my practice to exclusively small business law. It's the part of my business I love the most, and the part I'm best at (is that tooting my own horn?). Thanks for confirming that I'm heading down the right path. I always love and look forward to your articles, so I hope your niche never precludes you from continuing to write & share them with us!
Kate, this is a fabulous event idea! I can't make it this week, but would love to know if you host it again.
Have fun all!
Sorry to miss it this time, friends! I had my wisdom teeth out Friday (TMI?) and I'm still not up to speed!
I wish I could make it tonight, all - have a blast! Can't wait for the next one!
Hi, Shawn,
Thanks for the compliment! I don't know any attorneys down your way, but I will put out a call on my Twitter page and see if I get any hits for you!
Best,
Valerie
You know I'm there - can't wait!
And just to clarify for everyone, this event is at 12:00 p.m. - the time is showing up wrong on the event page despite my best efforts to fix it!
Hi, Marni,
We are meeting at Duke's Chowderhouse on Greenlake. The address is listed here on the event page, and their website (so you can check their menus) is [here](http://www.dukeschowderhouse.com/].
Best,
Valerie
Yes, we're hard core, Caitlin! lol THANK YOU for pointing that out to me. It should be 12:00 p.m. and I'll change it now.
Best,
Valerie
Hi, Caitlin,
Sorry, we can't change the date of the lunch as we have other RSVPs for today, as well as other plans later this week. Hopefully you can make a future luncheon!
Best wishes,
Valerie
Ooh, what a GREAT event! John, I can't wait to crash a future party here. Love Greek food and I've not yet been to Plaka Estiatorio.
Have fun, all!
Congratulations on your first blog, Randi - I'll be surfing on over there today to check it out!
Best,
Valerie
Maya - I look forward to having you at a future lunch!
Susan - So glad you'll be there!
Leila, thanks for the lovely compliment! I look forward to seeing you at another lunch soon, whether on Greenlake or in West Seattle!
Best,
Valerie
I am so sorry that I won't be able to make this event after all. Have a great time, everyone! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for another one that fits with my schedule.
What a great group of people! I'm really looking forward to it.
Jacque - Thanks for the note, sorry you can't make it this week but I look forward to seeing you another time!
Cheers,
Valerie
LOVE this idea - thanks for the heads-up, John. Karrie, I'm looking forward to seeing you again!
Cheers,
Valerie
Amy,
Congratulations! Starting a new business can be fun and frightening all at once. All the normal issues you'd face as a solo business owner exist when you go into business with a group of folks - only they're magnified in many ways! The upside of that is the hardships and work, if you do it right, are divided between you.
I'd be happy to talk with you over the phone for a free consultation - perhaps that would be a good place to start in terms of knowing the legal questions you need to ask on this venture. You can e-mail me here or just call the phone number on my Biznik profile.
I wholeheartedly agree with Leila - having the desire to do business harmoniously and with no conflict is a GREAT place to start. Consider taking all the right steps (working with an accountant, a lawyer, etc.) a way of honoring the relationships between you and your partners.
Best wishes,
Valerie
